Application of the Living Numbers | Rila Lectures by Beinsa Douno – June 26, 1942

Reflection

As you study the living numbers, you will come to see that each number has its application in life. At the foundation of each number lies a word—a word that carries meaning and essence corresponding to that number. In other words, every number relates to something. For example:

●    At the foundation of number 1 is the positive word “yes” (“да – da”).
●    At the foundation of number 2 is the negative word “no” (“не – ne”).
●    At the foundation of number 3 is the word “agreement” (“съгласие – suglasie”).
●    At the foundation of number 4 is the word “work” (“работа – rabota”)
●    At the foundation of number 5 are the words “forward with love” (“напред с любов – napred s lyubov”).

When you arrive at things that pertain to you personally, you must think and determine the direction of your movement. If your thought is aligned with the Divine, you will take the correct direction and say “yes.” If other choices interfere, you will say “no.”
The negative word “no” indicates that a person should not deviate from the path they are walking. If you have made a promise to serve God, you affirm that promise with the word “yes.” If, in a moment, another desire arises that tries to pull you away from that service, you reject it with a “no.”
No matter how much others try to sway you from your promise to serve God, you must remain independent and unwavering. When one remains unwavering in their allegiance to the First Cause, they abide in the realm of the Divine. But the moment they rely on others, they fall into the limitations of the human world.”
The one who dwells in the Divine is firm like a rock. No one can move them from the place where they have been appointed. Only the One who placed them there can remove them. In other words, only God can move you. If anyone else tries to replace you, you must say: “No, I shall not move from this place.”
In serving God, you must be affirmative, always saying “yes.” When the human influence comes to distract you, say “no.”
Following the positive word “yes” comes the person’s agreement to carry out what God has ordained. Thus, the one who has affirmed in the positive is in agreement with all that God has set forth. Once that agreement is made, the person begins to work for God. And at last, they are inspired in their labor by the thought that they move forward with love.
All people strive for love, but in the end, they remain disappointed. Why? Because they get entangled in human love, which more often destroys than builds. Divine love is positive and constructive. When someone enters that love, they awaken to the truth that only God loves unconditionally and nurtures true growth. He sends sunlight and warmth to all living beings. He provides bread to humankind. Christ says, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven.” This means that bread comes from above—from sunlight and warmth.
So then, if you say “yes” in your soul to something, do not turn away from your word. God told Adam not to eat from the fruit of the forbidden tree, and Adam said “yes”; he promised to obey God’s command. But when the tempter came and persuaded him to eat, he did not repeat his word given before God and he turned away.
Jonah, on the other hand, wanted to go west to Spain, but God told him not to go there—instead, He told him to go to Nineveh to preach repentance to its people. Jonah did not obey God and went to Spain, where, as a punishment, he was cast into the sea. There, he was swallowed by a whale. Jonah prayed while he was facing death alone in darkness, and after three days the whale spat him out onto the shore.
This is why, when God tells you to move forward, do so without hesitation. Even if there are difficulties—go forward. If you turn back, the trials and dangers will be greater than if you had pressed ahead in obedience to God’s command. Whatever trials lie ahead, you will overcome them. But if you turn back, the difficulties grow larger and harder to overcome.
Jonah emerged from the belly of the whale only after he resolved in his heart to fulfill the command of the Lord. He declared his willingness to obey. If you will not listen, death shall consume you; but if you incline your ear, death itself shall release you—just as the great whale released Jonah upon the shore.
God created man on the sixth day—a day of intense work, a day of creating the new human being. Our task today is to tune in and notice what God is bringing to life within us. A new kind of human is being created, one who reflects God’s image and carries the essence of a renewed life.
“This is eternal life: to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
